Howdy all... Looking for some ideas on what to do with this one. We're
doing a motor for a customer who wants a 351, injected, and blown -
and it all has to fit under a hood. Basically what it is looking like
now is starting with a stock EFI setup off a 5.8l (truck/van?) and
going from there. The thing is, with a blower won't a lot of the parts
need to be replaced anyway (mass air, TB, intake, injectors if
necessaray)? Might it be better to just buy all the components and use an
aftermarket harness, then just have to find a computer (and fuel
rails) right?

All of the aftermarket TBI units like accel, holley and such would be
nice and simple but I don't see a good way to use a centrifugal
supercharger with those, with the exception of the original-style
Paxton meant for a carb. And that whole setup together doesn't seem
like the greatest way in the world to go... Any thoughts on the whole
thing??

I'm not a 'spert by any means, but it really depends on what your customer
wants and how thick their wallet is. The stock parts would probably be OK
up to about 5-6 PSI which is the output of a standard Vortech. Your
problem would be to try and get the truck parts to fit under the hood.
Alternately, you could top off the motor with Edelbrock or TrickFlow parts.
Use a FRPP computer and harness. Size the TB and injectors to the
anticpated HP output.

You didnt say what kind of hood (or car) you were placing it under... That
might flavor opinions...

Actually, I was thinking of the Paxton setup, even for EFI? After all, the
Paxton unit was a really simple air pump... The whole business about
putting the carb in a box was to pressurize it... Wouldn't the Paxton be
perfect for pushing air through the Mass Air unit? You might have some
plumbing issues, but I'd think it would work great...

My advice would be to contact the manufacturers of those various unit...
See what they have to say about it...

If you need to save some space, you might consider a 5.0 block with a
stroker kit... With the blower on top, make sure to girdle the bottom end...

Just wanted to throw in my $0.02 worth.

I have on my 351C-CJ (460 hp) the Accel DFI unit and have been VERY happy
with it. Hooks up to an old Pentium 133 laptop (easy to get) and runs
through DOS (yes, I have the older version). Their new DFI computer, I
believe, works with newer computers and is windows based.

Let me know if you have any questions, as I'd be more than happy to discuss it.
