Subject: [CM] Looking for a friend

Hi Everyone,
I am wondering if anyboby knows this person. Back in the late 70s, We (my
girlfriend and I) were on vacation with my modified 1966 Mustang Coupe, Dark
Blue in color. We went to Lincoln, Nebraska, as I had lived there for 3
months in 1976. I liked Lincoln, the people there are very friendly.
Anyway I was driving around when the car started to run funny. It just
wasn't right, missing on one cylinder. I drove around not knowing where to
go. I was on the North East side of Lincoln when I pulled to a stop sign
and the car died. It didn't want to start, so I got out, pushed the car to
the side of the road and started checking what I could. I had tools on hand
always. About this time a man came over and offered his assistance. As I
pulled off the valve cover on the passenger side, I found the problem. I
had the original rockers on, well one of them had worn the valve t ip uneven
and the rocker slipped off one side of the valve breaking the pushrod in
two. The man said he may have a solution. He had me follow him to his
garage. He opened the door to the garage and there sat 4 Shelby mustangs.
His garage was very clean and well organized. He looked around and found a
pushrod, and a rail type rocker. Extra parts he had. At that point he said
to me "lucky you had a Ford or you'ld still be sitting there." I had to
file the rails down a little so they wouldn't touch the retainer and then
some to make sure. I feel this man was my gardian Angel for that time. The
Lord led me to that intersection, and for some reason the car died there. I
had been driving around for a good 15 minutes before the car finally died.
I never did get the mans name or address. We finished our vaction and
returned to Iowa without further problems.

Does anyone know who this may have been? I thanked him, but will always
feel like I didn't thank him enough. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Leland

John,

My guess is: Dennis Mallum. He is one of the Shelby
reps for Nebraska. Last I knew, he still lived in
Lincoln, but moved to an acreage. You can probably
find him through the Shelby Club (SAAC) or at any
Tulsa Shelby meet. If it wasn't him, he can probably
help you find them.

Good Luck,
Mark
