while out in search of brake calipers in a local yard, I found a '68
galaxie 500 (I think). the trim was gone, and I'm not really up on older
fords, but I thought I could read the outline from the shiny paint where
the trim had been. anyhow, I was wondering about the engine it had in it.
it was the one where the valve covers cover the heads and part of the
intake manifold as well. I seem to remember recently reading something in
one of the fine mustang magazines published about these being a
420-something. I'd go look it up, but I've taken up the habit of
throwing the mag away after the 3 and a half minutes it takes to read it
cover to cover. I figure this must be a no-brainer to you experts on the
list, so any help? it's cheap, might be cool to stick in my car while
rebuilding the 289, if it fits.
oh, there were also four or five monarchs and granadas that just arrived
with nice looking brakes. if they're scarce in your neck of the woods,
I'd be happy to pull them and save them from the crusher. I forget the
exact price but I think it was ~$150 for everything I needed from the car.

It's most likely a 390. Could be a 428 (or *maybe* a 427) If it were
either 428 or 427, I doubt it would still be sitting there.
The heads/exhaust manifolds would preclude use in a Mustang.

so the fe engines are the ones that the valve covers cover the heads and
part of the intake manifold where the pushrods are?
and if it's a 390, wouldn't it fit in my '68, when the 390 was offered as
an engine?
thanks for the reply, walt.
