I am cleaning my intake manifold from a 66 289. On the bottom side is a
raised area that is riveted to the bottom of the manifold. It has a tiny
hole, like a crease in the metal. I am wondering if this hole is important or
needs to be repaired. It is a narrow as a knife blade a thin as though sliced
by something.
I am trying to clean the manifold. I have used oven cleaner but that only did
get it partly clean. Is there some other method that might be useful. I want
to paint the manifold blue like the original ones.

Rolland, I think the hole is supposed to be there, to let oil drain out. You
mite wont to clean under that piece [the rivets twist out, just pry them up
with a chisel, or a screwdriver, and they will twist out] They tend to fill up
with sludge.

Thanks, the hole is a cut like maybe made by a screwdriver. But I have been
told by the machine shop that it is okay. Your info is correct to. They are
taking off that sheetmetal to clean underneath. Rolland
