Strange thing happened yesterday. My 66 200cid mustang stopped DEAD in the
middle of the road.

It didn't take me very long at all to find that the wire from the ignition
coil to the distributor was totally broken. The contacts at the distributor
cap had corroded to the point that the metal just disintegrated and pulled
apart.

Since I was only 1/2 mile from Advance Auto parts. I went and picked up a
new wire set and replaced the ignition wire.

I STILL can't get the car to start, and I have very little spark.

Could the wire breaking have caused something else in the ignition circuit
to go bad? The points are fairly new look good. Could I have somehow fried
the coil?

Any ideas?

Thanks
Lance

Thanks for the reply. I just got back in from working on it. I replaced
pretty much the entire ignition system. points, rotor, condenser, coil &
the plug wires.
everything works fine now.

It turns out that it was the condenser. As soon as I unscrewed it, from the
points, the wire just fell out. It had apparently burned through.

I'm probably ordering a petronix igniter for it soon so I don't have to
worry about points anymore...

Lance.
