OK friends, I'm looking for time tested solutions to keeping mice out of my
car. I have used sacks of mothballs placed in several locations for years.
Last year mice got into the trunk, walked right by the mothballs, scooted up
the C pillar & ruined my headliner. This is an expensive problem that I
don't want to ever have to deal with again. I always recommended mothballs
to others 'cause they always worked (before). Now I don't know.
Suggestions, please?

You might try dryer sheets, like Cling-Free or Bounce. I haven't had any
mice in my cars, but in the garage and so far this has keep them away. Good
luck.

I used the dryer sheets (i.e. the fabric softening sheets you put in the
clothes dryer) last year with good results, but this was a fairly small
sample (well, in two other cars plus the Mustang, but still a small
sample). One in the glove compartment, and one under each seat. It does
permeate the interior, but not as objectionably as moth balls.

I place a plastic sheet under the car and bring it up to the door sills and
bumpers. This provides a solid barrier to the mice and still allows the car
to breathe.

Dryer sheets keep them far away. Had 40+ mice in my garage over the
winter, and none wanted in my Mustang because I had 6-7 dryer sheets in
different places in it (under the seats, in the trunk, etc.

I have read this suggestion several times and could never bring myself to
accept it as true. I mean, dryer sheets smell good so how could THAT work?
But....mothballs stink & they have failed me so I am going to give dryer
sheets a try. Next question: Pink thin sponge kind or white woven kind (or
other?)??

I've used "Bounce" brand for the last two years with great success...and
yes, they don't smell 1/10th as bad as mothballs!

I guess I'm confused. How does this work? If Bounce really works, why
did mice decide to invade my laundry room this winter when I have plenty
of Bounce there.

Not sure "how", just that it does work wonders in boats, cars, etc.
whatever I've parked for the season.
They didn't invade because you had them rolled up in a box, not spread out
around the room, right?
