I have a couple of questions. First, I have a hood with the turn signal
vents and have lost all but two of the small metal clips that hold the
lens guards on and they flop around when I pop the hood. Does anyone know
of where I can find just the clips so I don't have to buy the entire
vents?
Secondly, I recently went on a short road trip and drove about 4 1/2 hours
each direction. The beginning of the trip was fine but during the return
trip I began to have problems with idling as I stopped at some stop
lights. The engine would rhythmicly surge and come close to stalling. It
back fired a couple of times as I would slow to a stop but everything
would return to normal once I got moving again. I've since returned to my
normal driving and everything seems to have returned to normal without any
further problems. Anyone have any ideas as to what caused this?
Thanks,
Sean

Sean, one guess would be gas percolation (?). Meaning the gas starts to boil
when you stop at a light producing the rough idle. Once you start moving the
cooler gas starts flowing faster than the ability to pick up the heat.

I can answer the first question. SOmetimes you can find those little clips or
"speed nuts" as they're sometimes called in the "Help" section at Kragens or
Pep Boys. You might need to go to a place that specializes in fasteners
though. Look in the phone book. Since you have one, just take it down and
they can match it. The main reason for the rattle though is that originally
there were small "O" rings behind the clips to keep them from rattling. They
have most likely long since rotted away. Just get some small "O" rings that
fit snug over the studs and replace the clips. No more rattles.
The second question I'll leave to the mechanics out there.
