Hello,

I have been on this list for some time now and have enjoyed reading all of
your informative messages. I have had my '67 fastback for almost 10 years.
It was originally a daily driver for me during high school. It has been in
storage for the last 4 years with the exception of the monthly start-up and
drive around the block. I am beginning to read as much as I can before
beginning a resto-mod type of project. My first needs will be taking care
of the dreaded rusty floor pans and frame rails. Does anyone know of a
quality body shop in the Lexingon, KY or Knoxville, TN area that is capable
of such work?

To start with, I am unsure about the history of the car. It has
unquestionably been repainted at least once. The original color looks to be
lime gold as evidenced by the fact that gold can be seen on the inner
fenders and trunk areas. The car currently has either a 289 or 302 mated
for a 4 speed manual. It came to me with a 2V carb but I exchanged the
manifold and carb in favor of a 4V. Axle ratio is unknown. The VIN is
7T02C296704. All that tells me is that the car was assembled at the
Metuchen plant, is a fastback, and originally had a 289-2V engine. I have
not looked in a while but I do not ever recall seeing an engine tag.

Evidently when the car was painted the data plate was removed. The only
such information I have is a tag that is attached to one of the front
fenders that reads the following:

D 7I 33 G26 63A I (or 1?) 2A ET ED

I would be most appreciative if you could help me decode these numbers. I
have tried using the online dataplate decoders to decipher some of these
numbers. 63A clearly states it's a fastback and I would guess that 2A means
its a black standard interior (true) and 33 is for the Detroit DSO. I could
stand for Lime Gold. I have no clue what ET, D, 7I, ED, or G26 might be.

Also, if I provide evidence such as this engine compartment tag and a VIN is
there anyone who can make a duplicate data plate for my car? I'd hate for
any future owners to have to go through this same hunt for information.

Many thanks in advance,

Marshall
Lexington, KY

This tag, the body buck tag, does not contain information about the axle or
DSO. However, the G26 is the date code for the car, meaning it was produced on
July 26. You are, of course, correct that the 63A is the body code; the "I"
after it is the paint code for Lime Frost, and the 2A is the trim code. The D
is an unknown code, the 71 refers to its position on the gate line that day
and the 33 tells which gate the body sides were attached to the platform
during assembly. The ET tells you the car has the Exterior Trim package and
the ED has me a little baffled at this time. Could you contact me directly
about this tag and I'll research it further.

My company is licensed by Ford to reproduce these tags. Get in touch with me
and I'll help you out.
