After many long hours of completely re-doing the engine compartment on my 66
GT, I have started putting everything back together. Having bought all new
wiring harnesses, etc. I started trying to match things on the alternator and
I am somewhat confused. I know the covered lugs go to BAT and GND, but what
about the single black/red wire with a lug on the end. At first I thought it
would have gone to a positive side of the solenoid or something but it will
not reach. I am now wondering if it is actually a ground and attaches to the
block. I found where I had left a bolt loose on the right side of the block
and wonder if that is where it goes. Any one know for sure? I am burning
the midnight oil (actually stayed up till 2:30 this morning) trying to get it
reassembled for a show this weekend. Can't afford to blow an Alternator at
this point in the game!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Bob

Bob, I looked at my 68 and the covered terminals go to batt and fld....the
blk/rd stripe goes to gnd. Chiltons manual shows the same thing, if you have
the electro-mechanical regulator this is the way it should go.

I guess I do have the electro-mechanical regulator. Thanks for your help, I
think I put one of the covered on GRN so I had better change that quickly.
Thanks again

Yep, that sounds right. It's the same bolt your negative battery cable
attaches to.
According to the Jim Osborne '66 Electrical Assembly Manual, the order is
Bolt/Alt Lead/Neg Cable/Star Washer/Block
