It has been pretty quiet out there hasn't it?

By the way, I must now replace my headliner in my '65 Fastback. I guess 128
degrees farenheight can unravel the stiching just like that.

My question is:

How does the headliner attach under the windshield gasket? You don't need to
remove the windshield do you?
Please help.

Thanks,
Jesse

The headliner attaches with contact cement under the windshield gasket. So
yes, you have to remove the windshield to do it right. But it really isn't
that difficult. Just cut the gasket along the edge of the windshield on the
inside and push out. Have a buddy on the outside to catch the glass. Going
in is almost as easy, just a piece of string, a new gasket and sealer. Wrap
the string in the groove of the gasket after putting in the sealer, position
the windshield and starting at the bottom, use the string to pull the lip of
the gasket over the flange.

Of course there is the cheap way which is to cut the headliner at the gasket
and reglue on the inside. But with 128 degree temps, the gasket is probably
shot anyway.

It glues to the edge. It can be done w/o removing the windshield, but
it's eaiser if you do.....

PS All my inlaws live in Henderson, I'll be visiting later this
month....

The factory installs them before installing the winshield gasket and windshield.
You CAN just stuff it under the gasket and it may last for a while.

A little more common in earlier years, but overall, a fairly rare option.
I don't know the production numbers for your year, but in '69 (the last
year for the bench seat) there were just over 500 produced. Our '69 coupe
has a bench seat with the comfortweave material and folding center arm
rest. I was surprised to find exact reproductions of our seat covers -
made by TMI Products and available from most Mustang vendors (ordered mine
through American Mustang in Sacramento). Excellent fit and quality.

You can visit the TMI website and browse their catalog online:
mustangupholstery.com/frquality.html
They only sell through their dealers though.

Hope this helps,
Don Daves

Don't know about '66, but in '67 there were 8,166 coupe's built with
standard interior and split bench seats out of a total of 472,000 total
mustangs built in '67. Figures came from Kevin Marti/Mustang by the
numbers. Hope I read that right and that this gives you a better idea...
