I'd be interested, though it'd probably need to be more "reasonably" priced
than your friend would prefer
More importantly, I'd like to add this car's VIN/Door Tag info to the
database of the "South of the Border Mustang Registry" (for which a website
will be coming *very* soon).
Mustangs were assembled in Mexico from 1965-on and in Venezula starting in
1967.
All carry a different type of Ford International VIN reserved for cars with
parts made in the U.S. but assembled in other countries, and are thus easy
to spot (the VIN's begin with "AF" (Mexico) or "AJ" (Venezuela) and the
cars carry spanish-language door tags with different data fields and codes
than their American-born cousins. (There was also apparently a small group
(50-100?) of Dutch-assembled 1967 Mustangs -- some info on these can be
found on the Mustang Club de France website at:
rafale.worldnet.net/~ambro/MCF/noia_US.html )
The Mexican cars carried a high percentage of Mexican parts (80% was
required by Mexican law), were limited to coupes (also as a result of
Mexican law), and were available with only the 289 (later 302) engine.
Engine bay color should be body color instead of semi-gloss black. VIN
stampings may appear on the door pillars or frame rails instead of the
inner fender.
Could you perhaps get the VIN/Door Tag info from your friend's car and
e-mail it to me?
If possible, I'd also like detailed photos of the car, along with copies of
the VIN and Door Tag(s -- there may be a second tag added on the passenger
side carrying Mexican registration data.) I'm particularly interested in
the origin of original parts and *any* sheet metal or part date codes --
plus "oddities" that differ from American-built cars.
Photo costs could be reimbursed
Where is this car located, BTW?
Other Mexican/Venezuelan Mustang Info Welcome -- please respond off-list to
avoid clutter
