Could be that mazda will be making some of the engine parts or body parts?

Ford and Mazda have had a longstanding realationship. If memory serves me correct I think the Probe had a engine that was either developed or built by Mazda.

In fact, the current B2000 and Ranger are the same. The Small SUV (can't remember names) are same. I think Ford still owns 25% of Mazda. And, interestingly, the new Mazda 3 was built on the Volvo S40 chassis in cooperation with Ford.

Well, I hope they're not building my American iron V8 ; )
Although since V8's are soon to ALL be made of aluminum, they may
actually have

Hi Guys:
The Flat rock, MI plant was developed as a co-venture with Mazda in the '80s
to produce the MX-6 and Probe (which was almost the front wheel drive Mustang
until the Mustang enthusiasts were heard) The plant is very high tech as
opposed to the Rouge which used to build Model Ts. The Rouge is going to make
F-series trucks. Flat Rockwas also before the Mazda-Ford connection was
acknowledged as it is today on Ford's web site and advertising. I believe that Ford has
also increased its stake in Mazda since the '80s. Based on what Ford had to
show at the 40th in Nashville, we don't have to worry about the Mazdification of
the Stang. It is still pure ponycar.
I'll still wait for an '05 GT rag
top!

Yes- Ford owns (or is a majority owner of) Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo, Land
Rover and Aston Martin as well as Lincoln and Mercury. In addition to
the obvious cars that look the same (the Ranger/Mazda pickups,
Escape/Mazda SUV, etc that others have pointed out) there are
"platforms" that are shared among the brands (like the Lincoln LS and
Jaguar mentioned below). There are Mazdas built on Ford platforms and
vice-versa. Check out the main Ford web site (www.ford.com) - there are
links to all of the Ford brands.

And, look at who Chrystler has bought and sold. Plus, GM has always been in Opel's pants. It's a good thing, I think. But, I'd really like to know where my next new car came from. How would I go about that?

And, look at who Chrystler has bought and sold. Plus, GM has always been in Opel's pants. It's a good thing, I think. But, I'd really like to know where my next new car came from. How would I go about that?

Yes- Ford owns (or is a majority owner of) Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover and Aston Martin as well as Lincoln and Mercury. In addition to the obvious cars that look the same (the Ranger/Mazda pickups, Escape/Mazda SUV, etc that others have pointed out) there are "platforms" that are shared among the brands (like the Lincoln LS and Jaguar mentioned below). There are Mazdas built on Ford platforms and vice-versa. Check out the main Ford web site (www.ford.com) - there are links to all of the Ford brands.

I'd think the only way to really know 100% of where your next car came from
would be to build it yourself. A kit car as an example. Otherwise it seems
it's a combination of parts from all over the globe.

The new Mustang is not built on the full Lincoln LS DEW98 platform, but
rather a cheapened, decontented version.
The LS has a beautiful all-aluminum tall-spindle SLA front suspension; the
Mustang gets Macstruts.
The LS has a sweet aluminum multilink IRS; the Mustang (except for the
Cobra) gets a stick axle on three-link.
The controlling factor behind the new Mustang is what it's been for every
Mustang design ever built: above all else it has to be cheap.
Apparently the stick-axle-on-three-link rearend was done for the
Thunderbird (which *does* use the full DEW98 chassis) - there was a big
internal debate as to whether at least low-end 'Birds should have been
stick-axle, in the end they went IRS. 'Bird's got a nice suspension design
(if a floppy structure) - shame it's otherwise so completely boring.
The Jag S-type uses a lot of the Lincoln LS bits, though with each
subsequent revision the Jag ends up a little less like the Lincoln. At
least Ford finally gave the LS the full-spec 280HP VVT Jag engine when
the Jag was stroked to 4.2L.
The current Mazda3 and the new Volvo S40/V40 are based on the new Focus
that Ford is launching in Europe, but the US won't get a new Focus for a
while at the very least - it took Ford five years to figure out how to
build the thing without a recall a month, and with the Mustang, the Five
Hundred, the Futura or whatever it's now going to be called, etc. US Ford
figures I guess they've got more new product launches than they can handle
anyway.
The Jag X-type was derived from the Mondeo - the previous version of which
was built here as the Contour/Mystique (great-driving car, shame about the
tiny back seat...) The Escape/Tribute is also Mondeo-based. Both use
similar AWD setups. I haven't been under either one of them so can't
venture how many bits they might share.

The probe and the Mazda MX-6 were essentially the same car with different exterior sheetmetal. Same as the Ranger / B2000 and Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape. The new Mazda 3, the new Volvo S40, and the next Ford Focus will all be based on the same platform. Also, in a year or 2, Ford will sell their version of the Volvo S60 as their new large family car.

Ford and Mazda have had a longstanding realationship. If memory serves me correct I think the Probe had a engine that was either developed or built by Mazda.

Actually its a HIGHLY modified version of the DEW platform, and as ford
says, it is so modified it isn't similar any longer, the DEW was too heavy,
and cost too much to produce for a high volume car.

Well, Canada is American ..... "North" American.
Which begs the geopolitical question of why we get to call
ourselves America? What about Canada and Mexico?
"America" is really just shorthand for United States of America.
...and Canada and Mexico liked their names as they were?
OK, so when were they named?
