Here's the story:

While trying to help a friend sell her Toyota at a local
University's
"For Sale" bullettin board, (a '92 Corolla), I spied something odd.
While walking back to my car in the parking lot, I looked at a few
cars...

"Grand Prix..... Buick... rice rocket.... rice rocket.... blue
'69
fastback...-- what?? That can't be right."

... but it was. No, I wasn't seeing double. Here was another
'69
fastback two cars down from me. Since they're rare to see around here,
I thought I'd have a looksee. I was surprized. The first thing I
noticed was a worn, ratty white deluxe woodgrain interior that was
basically intact, but then I looked on the hood, where sat a fake "GT
package" scoop with turn signals and a 390 emblem. I was starting to
like this winking smiley

I'm not going to get into a big story and bore you all.
Luckily, the
owner showed up about five minutes later and let me get a closer look at
his car. He was also surprized at seeing two '69 Mustang fastabacks winking smiley

And now on to the good stuff:
-----------------------------
The car is a 1969 Mach I; HAS to be original, because with all
the
goodies the thing has, and the way it looks all worn and in need of a
resto inside and out, what faker would make it look so bad? That's not
to say it has a bad interior... just one that's been plain worn out :|

The body has SOME rust. Not a lot and no major holes. The body
has
dents here and there and little places where rust is on the surface.
The passenger side door is either jammed or the locking mechanism is
shot- could use major restoration of the doors or replacing at least the
passenger side.

The paint is ok, and good to hold up a while, but the body needs
TLC
and a new coat if you plan to do anything other than get somewhere with
it. I feel so foolish not to have the "miscellaneous data" from the
VIN. The paint is some shade of blue and there are no Mach I stripes.

The wheels are 1969 "Styled Wheel", and look to be in good
shape.
Hrm. What else....

The straight specs are:
----------------------

ENGINE: 390cid
------
He let me start it up. It started with little trouble- (MUCH less
trouble than mine :>winking smiley. The guy said it wasn't running in tip-top shape,
but it sounded allright to me. A little octane additive might clear 'er
up. I revved it a few times and it sounded allright and didn't do much
to make me think the engine was in bad shape. It does need cleanup, and
I can't deny that a rebuild and good degreasing and polishing is
always a good way to be sure it's allright. Just my oppinion :\

INTERIOR:
--------
White, deluxe, Mach I, woodgrain, w/ pass. side clock. Gauges are
regular, without tach, (think so, almost positive). Console included,
with chrome automatic shifter bezel. Seats are the high-back sporty
types found on Machs & Shelbys of the '69 year. There is an original
Ford factory radio with built-in 8-track player (don't see many of
those, now do you? ;>winking smiley.
Steering wheel is a stock three-spoke with Rim Blow, (I like this one.
The last Mach I test-drove before considering buying had the same, but
the Rim Blow seemed like it was on the back of the steering grip; very
touchy, that car's steering wheel...).
The car also has original, complete IN-DASH AC! Heh... unfortunately,
the original owner took out the AC compressor, probably to save
horsepower. It's a New Jersey car.

EXHAUST:
-------
Dual, probably factory. It sounded allright. May be rusted... *shrug*
:/

HOOD:
----
Has original-type pins that look a bit worn. Also has the fake hood
scoop with working turn signals and the "390" emblems.

TRANSMISSION:
------------
An automatic. Not sure what kind. The shifter bezel and shift pattern
looks just like mine, so it could be a three-speed auto. Since it's a
big block, though, maybe it's a C-6 or an FMX. Again, sorry I didn't
check the driver door's FULL vin :{

--------------------------------

Overall, the car is what I'd call a restorable project. It
needs
bodywork, paint, interior work, some mechanical and some engine work and
a couple parts replaced, (like the engine accessory units, a FULL enigne
bay cleaning and detailing, and the passenger side racing mirror which
was ripped off the car by a theif). Honestly, it doesn't look too bad.
It just needs a full resto winking smiley
The original owner is most likely a NJ resident, and if he's the
only
other owner of this car, he certainly let the thing rot. The current
owner tells me the guy let it sit in his yard for years, so he comes
along, sees it, and the old guy sells it to him cheap.
The current owner is selling the car because he can't
financially
handle a restoration such as the kind this car needs. He wants to sell
it for $6,500. If anyone in the central Florida or Brevard areas is
interested, let me know via this newsgroup or my email address and I'll
give you his number. If anyone else not in the local area is
interested, drop me a line also. I got my '69 fastback all the way out
in Missouri, so long-distance buying isn't alien to me winking smiley

P.S. If anyone is interested, I know it's off-topic, I thought
I'd just
plug this for my friend, who has recently been awakened to the wonderful
world of the Ford Pony:

This newsgroup is for vintage Mustangers, so advertising here is
just
trying my luck. Hey, it never hurts to ask smiling smiley Oh, one other thing.
She may find it locally, but she's looking for an original '89-93 5.0 LX
hatchback Mustang with an automatic tranny, preferably. If anyone has
one of those for sale somewhere in FL, lemme know. Thanks smiling smiley
