Anyone mail order the fiberglass shelby aprons for '65's? What is the
quality like on them? Mustangs Unlimited and Branda sell 'em, as I'm sure a
few others do. I was considering adding that and a Shelby hood scoop. What
quality are the hood scoops? Anyone have a recommendation for bolt-on or
bond-on scoops??
Rich, about how much was it to have it made from steel? Can most body shops
do this, or was the guy who made yours a specialist in sheet metal?

Hmmm, maybe I used the wrong part name... The piece that I was
talking about is the piece that has the front turn signals in
it... is that the Gravel Shield or Valance? I never get it
right... Anyway, I (recently) tried two of them, I'm not sure
who was the manufacturer of the parts (I can find out though),
but they were both WAY narrow, even though a stock part fit
just fine...

I used one a few years ago in a previous restoration of my '65
coupe. They work fine... Do not try to lighten your steel hood
by cutting out the bracing though, I did, and had a cracking
problem as the hood flexed (even though it was now supported by
the foam ring around the air cleaner. But get ready for
"everyone" to badger you with complaints that you buggered up a
perfectly good steel hood... Particularly if you cut a hole in
it so the scoop is functional... You might want to consider
buying the 'glass hood instead...

Crook Brothers in Paramount did the part for $100 (as part of a
much larger job, so I dont know how much "discount" I got). He
started with a stock part, and split it at the "license plate
holder" (or whatever its called). The "gap" is a little narrower
then a comparable "Shelby Apron", but that allowed him/me to
retain the center brace (whatever that is called, where is my
parts catalog...). Its a really clean job, any welding/patching he
did is invisible. The "new" edges are rolled, making the part look
like it was "done at the factory". I'm no sheet metal expert,
so I dont know whether someone could do this or not... But
it looks straightforward.

I like the one on my 66 (with bumper) but the holes for the stone shield
never lined up right or where casted too close to the edge and ripped out.
it's held on very well at the sides (fenders). got it from mustangs
unlimited out of CT.
