I am getting ready to have the body work and paint on my '66 Fastback
done and would like hear any opinions regarding repro body metal. I am
looking at replacing the two front fenders rather than having them
repaired. They had been bondo'ed in the past and are showing a lot of
bubbling on both sides. I have been reading advertisements and looking
at mail order catalogs with great interest. Are there any sources that
are better than others in selecting vendors for these parts? Are the
claims of heavier gauge metal for real. I could go NOS, but there is
quite a difference in price. The car is going to be used as a weekend
driver, but I want to do this as right as possible. Anyone really
pleased with any particular vendor or source? I appreciate everyone's
info. This forum has been in invaluable source for me since starting
this project.

Bob, although I know you will get differing opinions. My experiences have
been that the repro sheet metal with the exception of the front and rear
valences fit like crap. Why not buy a decent repairable original used item
and have it repaired. That is what I usually do.

I don't know anyone elses experiences, but I had great luck with fenders from
California Mustang.... My only problem was the headlight buckets and that was
remedied by enlarging the post holes slightly.... After that a rubber mallet
allowed me to mount them perfectly flush before tightening..... This was on a
'67 btw....
