5:1 operation must represent some absolute cylinder pressure - because the compression ratio, the dynamic compression ratio is a result of a number of factors -

1) the air that's is pulled into the cylinder is lower than atmospheric pressure - because of the vacuum in the intake restrictions, throttle, ... - except on very high performance race engines;

2) the inertia of the air into the cylinder helps increase the air pressure;

3) the inertia of the exhaust gas and timing of the valves relative to piston position may increase or decrease cylinder pressure, etc. etc., etc.

But, there must be some value, in psi, measurable not compression ratio, that says yes it'll burn, and that burn will produce more power than it consumes. What is it? I don't know ...

Critiques on the above welcome, I was just loosely applying some of the physics I remember from years ago, which probably amounts to enough to be dangerous ...
