Greetings!

My '66 6cyl/3spd wont start. :-( It was running fine until I
parked it one evening, then the next morning I turned the key and only got
a 'clunk'. Since that sounded like a dead battery, I tried to jump start
it. When I made the last jumper connection, I got an incredibly large
spark and the jumper cables got HOT in a short time. I've checked the
battery (it seems OK as it starts another vehicle I own), but what next?

Given the way my attempted jump start went, is it possible that a
serious short has developed? Would a bad starter produce these kind of
symptoms?

Thanks to anyone out there who can provide some advice.

I would suspect a short. Check the wires leading from the
solenoid to the battery
and from the solenoid to the starter, could have a burnt hot
wire.
If that isn't it try jumping across the solenoid terminals
and see if it kicks. If
it does it's probably the starter. If it does not it is
probably the solenoid.

I'm sure there are other possibilities but these are the
problems that I have encountered
myself that had the same symptoms you described.

Eric
