Hi all,

I've got a problem with the brakes on my 68 GT500KR. I'm pretty sure its =
a vacuum
problem of some sort - when I brake, I can hear a hissing coming from =
under the hood,
and there is very little effect. When I push _really_ hard, the brakes =
work, although
not as well as they should.

So, I figure its the brake booster (oh yes, power brakes). However, I =
tried disconnecting the
manifold vacuum line, and the engine dies. Is that normal? Also, under =
hard braking, the
engine revs drop down lower than normal. The Manifold vaccum is about =
18" at idle,
which seems to me to be OK. Acceleration response looks normal (this is =
parked),
with the vacuum dropping down quickly, then coming back up, and popping =
higher than
idle when I ease off again. When I brake at idle, the manifold vacuum =
drops down to
about 11"

So, is it just my brake booster? Any way I can double check that thats =
where the problem is?
I read that they need to be replaced, as they cannot be serviced - is =
that true?

Wow, what a load of questions! Thanks for any help you can give.

Regards,
Chris.
