Hey guys......Got a question that has be a total enigma to me since I bought
this
66 Stang earlier this year.
Question: Where the hell is the exact location of a Dearborn (Plant code
"F"
body buck tag, on a 65-66 Stang?????????????
Since I bought this car, I've been looking for the body buck tag.....This is
the third mustang that I've owned, The other two were another 66, and a 65
hardtop, But they were Metuchen built cars (Code "T"
, and had no problem
finding the Buck tags, because they were right on the upper shock towers..
With this Dearborn car, I am totally puzzled, I not only cannot find the
Body Buck tag, I can't even find the hole to where a tag would normally be
affixed. As far as I know, All Dearborn cars had Body Buck tags, But What I
don't know is where they were normally affixed (In most cases). SO WHERE
THE HELL IS THE TAG OR THE HOLE WHERE THE TAG SHOULD BE?????????
Please, Do not reply unless you have a dearborn built car, or if you
absolutely know where Dearborn affixed their body bucks for 65-66.
Thanks, Tony.
PPS: Can't wait to solve this mystery.....

Don't sweat it -- my Dearborn '66 (14 Feb SBD) also shows no evidence of
ever having had a buck tag. They *should* be located about midway down the
top of the passenger-side inner fender.
Certainly the screw hole could be welded up, but even that would leave
*some* evidence in the metal -- and my car's other "repairs" had clearly
been done by "Bondo Artists", so there's no reason for me to think that
they would've suddenly gotten professional about a small spot in the engine
compartment.
Just for my own personal edification, what's your VIN/Build date?

Russell, if possible, I'd like a pencil rubbing of that tag.
1970 is the first year anyone's found a Dearborn "buck" tag,
so they're pretty interetsing to those of us studying such
thing.
The ideal circumstanc would be if you also had either the
original certification label (on L/H door), and/or something
like the original invoice...maybe that letter from Ford I
talk about on the 'site.
LMK if you can help with this.

So far as anyone knows, the metal tag procedure was phased
in during later 1965 production. If you see no evidence of
one anywhere along the fender flanges, I'd assume you have
a 1965 that's a bit too early.

Just for the record, my post of three minutes ago is hooey.
In my haste, I misread Dearborn as San Jose...a stupid error
and one which goes to show one can't stay up to all hours
working on html and still expect to be lucid the next morning.
Sorry for the inconvenience, Ford fans.

So....... Mr FOMOCO, (Allen), You mean to tell me that 1970 was the first
year that
Ford used body bucks at Dearborn(Code F)?????? How come none of my books
mention this?!?! As far as I know to all I have read in the past, Only San
Jose (Code R)cars, did not receive Body bucks tags.... As far as I know they
were the only plant not to use them. Although I have heard that sometimes
that plants didn't affix them at certain points, or left them off entirely.
Metuchen (Code T)cars were religious for having body bucks. Every
Metuchen car I have seen in my life has had one. What is the REAL story
with Dearborn???? Or are we just shooting in the dark here?
Tony.
PLEASE HELP ME. I'M LOSING IT. (Going nuts)

This response is to Aloha Dave......Thanks for your intelligent response. I
appreciate
it. Also, I love your webpage. The build date for my 66 Dearborn Hardtop
is:
May 31st, 1966 (31E). DSO is 13 (New York)-which is my state....so it's
spent it's whole life here...and is still in mint shape!
Thanks Dave,
Tony.
PS: Anyone else care to offer an intellingent response?

Well, between the time-lag and my screwup, I'd better
fix this before it gets ugly.
Buck tag applications:
Dearborn = from late 1965-on, but its possible some
tags were never applied.
Metuchen = same
San Jose = starting w/ 1970 models
Hope that clears up any confusion I created.

Of all the buck tags that I have collected the earliest one that I have
seen on a Dearborn car is from a 67 Mustang. Although I can not prove it,
I strongly suspect that they were not installed on any Mustang from
Dearborn before the 67 model year. If any one has proof to the contrary I
would love to see it. Thanks.

You might have a point there, Dave. I have to depend
on others for most of my Dearborn info...they're not
too common in PA. Perhaps I've been misinformed.

Agreed David from all those I had and those that have already been sent
in for the buck tag research project your statement is correct.
BTW there are a couple of books coming out on "decoding" buck tags again
. Hopefully we have infulence them towards a little more correctness
than in the past. We can really shot down some of the codes and claims
in some of the early articles and books. But as always the intent is to
provide the best and correct information to the hobby
