Anybody familiar with this claim??? 5 on 5 1/2" Dana 60 that came in
Mustangs?
?
?
kpr.craigslist.org/pts/1540865572.html

If it doesn't come up, the individual is claiming 1967 Mustangs came with 5
X 5 1/2 pattern Dana 60's that had big blocks in them.

I don't recall ever seeing any.

Thanks all - I didn't think it was an option, don't have a 67 shop manual to
verify, but I've worked on so many 65-73 Mustangs, from small to big block
and I've never run across one. It's hard to believe a 67, even with a big
block motor would have a 60 in it. A beefy 9" maybe, but not a Dana 60. I
always thought Ford saved those for their truck fleet.

The bolt pattern is wrong for either. Yes, Dana 60s were used in the BB
Mopars (my '70 Charger R/T had one), but even those used the common 5x4.5
pattern like Fords. The light Fords were fine with the strong 9" even in
competition, so that doesn't seem right either, and I have also never heard
of any using them except drag cars with custom drivelines. Lots of those.
>From the '60s through the '80s, the Dana was considered the ultimate drag
car rear, especially for heavy stick-shift cars. Although very heavy
itself, it was stronger than the 9", and was a popular swap into various
strip cars. It would be a good choice for a thumping bracket car for
minimal money (especially if already modded to fit a 'Stang), but otherwise
now obsolete due to all the aftermarket stuff that can now make 9" rears
stronger than the original Dana, and still lighter. Unless looking for a
cheap(ish) alternative to upgrading a Mustang 8" to 9" with deep gears and
limited-slip, it has relatively little value to most - and that's assuming
the bolt pattern is a mis-print and it's actually in good internal shape.
