Ditto with me. Who the f*** cares about some shop in No. Virginia? I
live in CA and will never go to VA again(been there once, too sticky and
hot). If it doesn't pertain to Mustangs, DON"T PUT IT ON THIS LIST!

If it is about some shoddy service like someone got from GER
transmissions a while ago, by all means, let us know, but not some
regional crap.

(off soapbox)

By the way, anyone got the scoop on why ASAP (mail order house) shut
down? They had great customer service and great prices.

>Sorry, but its not part of the charter for this list. The list is
about discussing Mustangs, not every friggin' lousy, no-good parts
dealer in the world. If everyone told one story about poor service
from just one company they've dealt with, your mailbox would overload.

If you want to start a separate DL called "Consumer_Services" or "Buyer
Beware" where you can share good and bad stories about various
retailers, then be my guest.

But if you post them here, I'll keep reminding you that I don't want to
read them on this DL. Its not the reason why I joined.

Who is the founder of the list? Is that person still active on it? What
is their opinion?

Mine is, his wheels are on his Mustang, therfore it pertains to Mustangs,
and other cars too. Maybe someone who is in VA will save himself some $$
by spending it somewhere else. However, just because one person had a
bad experience, doesn't mean everyone will. But I certainly haven't read
anyone sticking up for the accused company. NO, I will most likely
never shop for tires or any other car parts in VA, but if someone here in MO
had a bad experience with a business I might go to, I am sure I would
want to hear about it. And what better people to hear from and to trust the
opinion of than those with similar interests (ie: Mustangs). Wasn't the
reason we went to live delivery on the list instead of just digest the
ability to delete messages by heading? If you don't care to read
something that is titled "Don't shop at ______!" Then a simple stroke
of the "d" key will do......

Just my feelings....

I'm not the founder, but I did run the list for 2 years or so. I also
live in Northern Virginia; it's only hot and sticky here in late
summer... ;-)

The charter that I assumed for the list, which I picked up from the
previous owner (Tim Carlson, who's still on this list), was this:

"The focus of the classic-mustangs distribution list is classic Mustangs
(those from 1964 1/2 thru 1973). This list should provide a means of
sharing information on the joys (frustrations??) of driving, restoring,
repairing, maintaining, showing, etc. our classic Mustangs."

I haven't seen anything from Jeremy Wilson (previous owner) or Moose
Dinn (current owner) stating that the charter has been changed.

>From that I'd have to say that information on poor service at a
particular shop isn't off topic, but we have to remember that
info particular to a specific shop in a specific location won't be
interesting to many list members. Mail order is something else
since mail order businesses are easily acessible to most of us.

My suggestion: If you'd like to share info about a specific incident
at a local shop, post a message to the list that says something like
"I had a bad experience at so-and-so. If anyone's interested in the
details we can exchange messages off-line". This will keep the full
text of the details off the list, but it still allows for sharing of
the info.

I'd also remember that flaming a business in a public forum like this
can have legal ramifications. Even if you're right, I'd hate to see
anyone on the receiving end of a lawsuit.

I agree with Ken on this one - this is an INTERnational list, which means
that Mustangs lovers from other countries than the U.S. are here such as
myself and Moose. Although I sympathize with the person's problem with
this shop, I will never even have an opportunity to make the mistake of
going to this place, since I live in Canada.

The recent increase of flaming lately has me a bit worried. I think we
should just drop the whole topic and go back to our Mustangs.

Item Subject: [CM:1765] Re: Crappy service in god knows where

As the originator of this list several years ago, I'd like to throw in my $.02.

I agree with Scott's statement that a post regarding a specific shop is OK, but
please make the Subject line as clear as possible so that those who are not
interested can delete the message without even reading it. Also, please
encourage any follow-up discussion to take plase off-line.

Now, lets get back to our Mustang discussions...

Well, for one letter, this really makes a lot more deleting than 1. Has
anyone else noticed the list tends to send way more messages argueing
than it would take to just delete the message? It's one message until
everyone makes a big deal about it. I wouldn't be writing this except
for that reading everyone's response to one message takes a lot longer
than the message. My advice: If it remains low traffic on unpertaining
items, ignore and delete them. Why make such a fuss over one message?
