Hello all,
I would like to relocate the coil on my 65 convert. Since it is NOT a correct
yellow top coil, but a chrome mallory unit, I have not felt any need to
relocate if from on top of the manifold, where it is held down with the same nut
that holds down the engine tag.
Does anyone have a good web reference or link for the correct location for
the coil for a 65 289 2 barrel?
My car does have the chrome dress up kit, so the chrome coil fits right
iin, but I would like to mount it correctly.
Thanks in advance.
Also-for those of you who have received the latest Mustang Monthly, the
Twilight Turquoise car I am taking about is on the Reader's Ride pages at the back
of the magazine. Send in a picture and when you forget about it because it has
been so long, -BAM!- what a nice surprise!

I thought it was on top of the intake, between the carb and the dizzy. There
a boss cast into the intake where the coil clamp mounts and also holds the
engine ID tag. So the location you describe is the correct location.

Numeric stability is probably not all that important when you're guessing.

I can't remember where this picture came from, but someone here (I think) sent a link to it when I was asking about original colors. Supposed to be a correct '65 engine. You can just see the yellow top coil mounted to the front of the passenger side head.

Here's a 65 ranchero, same place.

That's where it's mounted on my '66 289 as well (front of the
passenger-side cylinder head).

Mine was too, and I also assumed it was the stock location. I had to move it
when I installed the compressor for my AC kit.
