Hello again,
Sorry about the mistakes in the last message. It should have read as
follows:
Here's a question for the real classic mustang wonks. My California '67
coupe (C code, A/T, no A/C, no P/S), currently has the '66-style exhaust air
supply manifolds - the ones that look like pitchforks. According to
Corcoran and Davis' book, these are the right ones for cars built before
4/17/67 (Mine was built on 12/6/66). Is this correct? And if so, should
the other smog components (air pump, dump valve, etc.) be those used for a
'66 California 289? And should the hoses be routed as for a '66 or a '67,
or perhaps even using the setup used on '66-67 HiPo engines? Any
information (any Californians with '67s out there?) would be greatly
appreciated.
Now for my second question. My car has a tilt away steering column which
was fairly clearly added by a previous owner (there aren't even any holes in
the fender apron for mounting the vacuum reservoir). I have a fixed
steering column and steering box in a parts car that I could use to replace
it. The steering box in the parts car is an SMB-A (1" sector shaft, long
shaft), which I gather was used in "early" 1967 cars. The question is, how
early is early? Is it plausible that a car built in San Jose in early
December 1966 would have been equipped with a long shaft steering gear? Is
there anyone out there with a car built after 12/6/66 that has an SMB-A
steering gear?
In advance, thank you very much for your help - Rob
