This may be a rhetorical question but I am converting a 6 cylinder 65 coupe
to an 8 cylinder (351W). Is it necessary to convert the steering linkage
from 6 cyl model to 8 cyl model also? I.e., tie rods, idler arm, etc. Or
will the 351 fit with existing 6 cyl linkage? I assume that is why they
made 2 different types in the first place but just wanted to make sure.

Don't want to be a pest here, but haven't received any comments on this and
I really need to know. I know that you are the right folks to ask so let me
know.

It is not required that you switch to 8 cylinder steering but it is
recommended. When I got my car it had a 5 lug rear end from a V8 car and 6
cyl (4 lug) front end and a V8 289 engine. I converted to V8 steering to
make it all 5 lug and because the V8 steering is heavier and will handle the
extra power and cornering potential better.

To the best of my knowledge you have to match all the steering components
when making the swap.
Good luck.

For manual steering, not sure on power steering, the uper and lower control
arms are the same so you need to change the idler arm (bracket is the same),
pitman arm, drag link, tie rods and adjusting collar, and spindles
(including all the brake stuff). On mine I used the Grenada spindles, outer
tie rod and adjusting collar and disc brake setup and the Shelby quick steer
kit which includes the idler arm and pitman arm and cost about $10 more than
stock parts.
While it is not hard to do its an all or nothing proposition, you can't do
it a little at a time.

Already got Baer brakes, GlobalWest Negative Roll system, 5 bolt spindle,
outer tie rod end and adjusting sleeve. Where can I order the Shelby quick
steer kit?

You can get the quick steer kit at Mustang Unlimited, Branda, Dallas
Mustangs, just about any of the parts houses.

The National Parts Depot catalog lists the different parts for 8-cyl
steering. Perhaps it can help you decide which parts to replace if ever you
change the steering.
May God bless you always!
