I have removed the clusters a few times. The first thing you do, is disconnect the battery ! Loosen all the screws as stated below, I also disconnected the end cap and the radio cap near the cluster. Be careful not to scratch the steering column. Sometimes you have to loosen the entire dash pad, but try just removing the cluster first.. After removing screws, pull it straight out toward the steering wheel until you have enough room 5-6 inches, to get your hand on the speedo cable. It has a large plastic pinch clip. I use channel locks, look thru the windshield, and reach over the open drivers door to place them onto the plastic pinch clip, then tighten and pull the speedo cable straight back out of the gage. Then you have one large plastic long elect connector that fastens to the Circuit board. Careful here !, there are two clips, you can sqweeze with your fingers, then pull it out of the CB.

While you got it out, check all the light bulbs too. IF your gages are not working, just write me direct before you spend money for the Circuit board of CVR. You most likely dont have to replace them at all, if the three gages (fuel, oil press and temp dont work.

I believe it is the same as the '69. You will have to disconect the speedo cable and the wiring harness connector to the printed circuit board. Both are removed by pinching the plastic lugs or keepers together and pulling the assembly outward away from the cluster. There are three trim screws at the top of the cluster attaching the cluster to the crash pad (upper dash) and two or four screws at the bottom of the cluster attaching it to the lower dash. These must be removed before you can slide the cluster forward enough to remove the connector and speedo cable.

Hello All,

Need to remove a gauge cluster assembly from a 1970 coupe...how do I do it?
I keep reading that I need to reach behind and disconnect the speedo cable but how do I know when I have it?
And how do I disconnect it? Is it a twist off, unplug, unplug with a clip?

Any help and tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Marc Cramer

Trying to dress things up under the hood.

No problems finding chrome crank, water pump & alternator stuff. But I can't seem to find anyone who sells chrome p/s pulleys. sad smiley

Anyone have a lead on these? I see a lot of "keyed" GM p/s pulleys on ebay. Does anyone know of an interchange GM pulley that would press on an old Ford pump?

Thanks,
Mike

All,

The oil pressure gauge in my 65 isn't working and I'm wondering if I
have the wires on the back of the gauge hooked up right. I'm inclined
to swap them to see if it fixes it - so I'm wondering if doing that
could hurt anything (ie. short something out)? Is there a way to test
the gauge? I've already installed a new sending unit, and the temp
and fuel gauges are working.

TIA,
Ben

It's got an oval plastic clip that you have to squeeze, squeeze it so it's round and pull it from the back of the speedo.

I have a set of original 70 standard gauges I converted to white face. I painted them white then placed overlays over the stock lettering. They worked and looked great! I used them for a year or so then converted all the gauges to aftermarket from Classic instruments. Mostly because I wanted a tac and wanted to get away from the printed circuit board thing.
If anyone interested I'll sale them cheep. It's for internal gauges only.

Chris

Yes, John, your 2 JPGs are related to my questions. I am wondering, did
they just used a hand-selected, magnafluxed manual steering crosslink and gave
it the D0ZX-3304-A part number and used it with the stock power steering idler
arm? Or are there geometric differences between the stock and Stage III
crosslink? There are no other special parts listed for the Stage III steering
modifications. But I am just guessing here. I hope there is someone on this
list who can clear this up for me. Thanks for your response.
Jim

You mean as in:

milleredp.com/~jem/image/boss302/DSCN1551.JPG and
milleredp.com/~jem/image/boss302/DSCN1553.JPG ?

Quoth from page 15: "The specified power steering idler arm assembly
mates with the longer pivot stud on the crosslink in the kit", and other
parts of the page references "improved toe change geometry" so it'd
appear the kit crosslink moves the inner tie rod ends a bit.

John.

Thanks for the quick answer! Now, of course, I have another question. So,
it was a strength modification, not any geometry modification, right?
Thanks again!

In the Boss 302 Chassis Modification booklet, the Stage III steering
section
refers to a "special crosslink" PN D0ZX-3304-A. Does anybody on this list
know what the difference is between this special crosslink and the stock
(manual or power steering) crosslink?
