This is the crux of your problem -- since all the sheet metal date codes
you've quoted are from mid-late April 1972, we can assume that *most* of
your vehicle is the car to which you have the title.
Unfortunately, someone -- for reasons we can only guess -- has swapped out
the dash VIN plate (and possibly some of the surrounding structure) from a
'72 Mustang built around late November 1971. (The Cougar door is merely an
added distraction -- the door VIN is "Not for Registration Purposes"
The Dash VIN carries the most weight -- and since you don't have a title to
2F01F147477, your success in convincing the DMV that the "genuine" VIN is
the one on your buck tag, and that the dash plate substitution was not
performed for any devious purpose -- and *that* may be the toughest sell...
I'd think you'd need to show some evidence of structural or accident
damage to the area which *required* replacement. Of course you could
always try to track down the previous owner of 2F01F147477 and obtain the
title -- then you could just claim to have "rebodied" it
