Has any one installed a Classic Auto Air Tru-fit system in a classic
Mustang, and if so could you please check to see which Sanden compressor
(part Number) they use I can get Compressors for under 80 bucks, and just
need the Part number I'm thinking its this one
(sanden.com/lib/drawings/4627/index.html) but would like to know
for sure...Thanks guys and let me know what you think of the parts you got
from them, especially the R134a stuff.

I just installed a Classic Auto Air R-134a system into my 70 Mach I using the Sanden compressor. The car originally had a factory system which had leaked out all its now-very-pricey R-12 over the winter. Not only did the compressor shaft leak, but so did one of the hoses as evidenced by all the A/C system's oil residue found.

I will have to let you know which Sanden unit it was tomorrow.

As for the changeover kit, it works pretty well. At around 100deg F ambient, I had 38deg F coming out of the vents with the fan on medium, A/C to max, and the driver's door hanging open. With the fan on high it was around 4 deg warmer. The kit came with new suction and discharge hoses and new dryer, as well as the mounting kit. (I also installed a new condenser and sight glass hose.)

The mounting kit works well, once you determine which way to mount the compressor on the adapter plate, and which way to turn the plate on the original compressor mount. Some of the mounting bolts interfere with each other for getting a box-end wrench on the nuts/bolts, but that is worked around by trial and error sequence of which one to do first.

Really, I was pleased with all the hardware. The worst part of the kit was the installation instructions which consisted off photocopies of old Mustang Illustrated and Mustang Monthly articles on how to install the kit. Since photos don't reproduce very well in photocopies, I naturally mounted the compressor incorrectly at first and the pulleys didn't line up.

A second thing was no A/C charging instructions or expected operating pressures. This isn't too bad, since the majority of DIY'ers will install the kit and go to a shop for charging. I called Classic Auto Air for expected pressures and they were able to fill me in. A guy named Curtis in tech support seemed to be the knowledgeable guy to talk to about classic mustang conversions.

I will email back to the list tomorrow with the Sanden part/model number.
