Hi All
I have a 65 coupe and currently the exterior and
interior matches what is on the data plate. It is
dark green and palomino. I am thinking about changing
the exterior and interior colour and going from a
standard interior to the deluxe interior.
I am wondering if changing the paint and interior
colour will decrease the value of the car?
Thanks
Sue

Sue,
I have a 65 convertible that is blue with a black interior. When it rolled
off the assembly line it was painted white. I painted it blue 19 years ago
and haven't regretted it one single day. Has it decreased the value? If I
were to sell it I may get a few less dollars for it. Maybe, maybe not. But
for me it's hard to put a value on the car. I'll never sell this car and my
college age daughters are already telling me that it's going to be theirs
soon. (Their wrong, it's MINE for a few more years!)
My advice? If you're planning on keeping the car for a long time paint it
what ever color that you want. Make it YOUR car. If you think you might be
selling it in the next couple of years MAYBE you should keep it original.
Good luck!
Scott

Sue,
Unless your Coupe is totally restored, I wouldn't worry about changing
colors. Because so many cupes were built, their value is not as great as a
2+2 (fastback) or convertable. I don't think changing the color would effect
the value too much.
Having said that, I intend to keep mine original. It is a 64 1/2, with a
build date of April 13 (pretty early). I have no idea what the value of mine
is, but if I had a 65 Coupe to play with, I'd make it the way I wanted it.
Like someone said, if you bought it with the intention of selling it, I'd
keep it VIN correct. If you intend to keep it, do what you like. Some will
disagree, but it's yours to enjoy.

another way to look at this...
Changing the color will not decrease the value of the car, but it might
make finding the new buyer just a little harder...
If you think you want to sell the car eventually to a "car restoration
freak", then yes, original...
But otherwise, like selling anything, part of the deal is to find the right
buyer...
My '65 Poppy Red, 64 3/4, 2-bbl 289 is no longer stock... In fact, I dont
even bother putting it in shows any longer since its not stock enough to
win there... and its not customized enough to win anything in that class
either... My only chance (if even winning was that important) is
"popularity contests". But, the best comment I've ever heard from someone
is "Hey, can I take a few shots of your car? I'm about to restore a Mustang
with my son and we decided we wanted it to be just like yours!". I'll bet
if I whispered to him that my car was for sale I wouldnt have to worry much
about the price...
As long as your modifications are (hmm, how to put this), uh, "tasteful"...
There should be no problem with the sale price...

Hi All
Thanks for all your advice on changing colours. At
present it is Ivy green with a palomino interior.
Although I do not mind the Ivy green it needs a paint
job and I have to replace all of the interior
anyway... so I was thinking Red with a black interior.
Yes it will not be VIN correct, but I have always
loved RED....
Thanks Again All

Sue,
I say DO IT! I have a 70 convertible that was originally Medium Lime inside
and out and I changed it to Performance Red with black interior, and it
DEFINITELY INCREASED the value, but I'll never sell. Famous last words. Have
fun!

Sue,
I changed my 66 back to Ivy Green and parchment interior and have been
pleased. (It was honda blue-green) w/ black interior. I hesitated on the
exterior, but added pearl specks and with the clearcoat looks very nice.

Go for it, I repainted my 69 convertible Dodge Truck Red, it gets
nothing but compliments on the color. Even at shows.

Hi All
Thanks for all your advice on changing colours. At
present it is Ivy green with a palomino interior.=20
Although I do not mind the Ivy green it needs a paint
job and I have to replace all of the interior
anyway... so I was thinking Red with a black interior.
Yes it will not be VIN correct, but I have always
loved RED....
