Hi all, We are having a major problem with our Boss 302. It will start
and run as long as the key is in "start" position. As soon as we let
go, it dies! Checked and double checked all connections, power to coil,
etc. Suspected vaccuum leak so replaced intake manifold gaskets.
Plugged all other sources of vaccuum leaks. Checked the timing. All
cylinders fire when in "start", but as soon as key is released to "run"
it dies. Help! Desperate for any possible suggestions of something
we've missed! TIA

Possibly the ignition switch?

Chris.

I'd go back to basics with this. Strongest option is a power failure to the
coil. Is there 12 V at the coil with the ignition on and engine stopped? If
so, then a possibility is that the Governor fitted to the Boss 302 is
malfunctioning and killing the ignition as soon as the engine is running.
The supply to the coil is via the governor box. Try disconnecting the
governor and feeding the coil via a lead straight from the battery (Just
temporarily because it will supply 12V to a coil designed for 8V) . If
that's OK I 'd consider replacing or bypassing the governor box.

Good luck

Nancy,

Do you still have power to coil when in run position, If not then there
you go, did you already rule out electrical, (intake gaskets?...So soon)
