Is there anyone else out there that is as upset as I am because they can't get
originally numbered replacement plates for their California classic cars that
are newer than 1962??? It appears that if your car is newer than 1962, you
cant get plates made, even for non-registration purposes. I still remember the
plate number that was on the car when I bought it . It was stolen in 1979 (the
rotten SOBs took everything out that wasnt fastened down as well as the plates,
I had to get a new set), and I also realized the hard way that in Calif,
non-operation fees must be paid yearly, not just the first year of storage.
Eight years later, I had to get yet another set of plates. By letting the
registration lapse like that, all records drop out of the CA DMV system for the
car, making a title search impossible (Im the third owner, I know the previous
owner, the original owner was a member of the Kellogg family). ANYHOW, I would
really like to be able to put the original plate numbers back on my resto-mod
rod. Anyone else out there feel the same??? Let me know. Sorry for being so
long in the tooth.

C-Ya. Tony C.

California cars 25 years and older are considered "Historical interest"
vehicles, even without the special plates, and are EXEMPT from the "PNO"
(planned non-op) as well as aall back fees they may try to charge you- talk
to the manager if you have a problem! (just don't get a ticket driving the
unregistered car . . . ;-)

Are you sure? I think the DMV changed it to 32 years.
