Hi everyone this is my first post to the list..

I am currently involved with a nice project. I have a 66 Fastback and I am
installing a low mileage 89 drive train in it. I have the Promotorsports
kit, performance springs, granada discs, taurus rack and pinion being
adapted, WF strut tower brace, Headman shorty headers, and some random cool
parts, and will be installing some large billet rims & low profile
tires. None of this is done yet.. But will be in the next couple months.

My question is.. Has anyone done the cable clutch conversion?? I know
places sell them $300 but I am NOT paying that much. Already spent that
much with Windsor Fox 'rapeage'. I have seen 2 articles on the net but
wonder if anyone has a better idea and/or more info. I have also bought
shorty Headman's so I can't use the stock linkage (and because I already
got a BBK adjustable unit).

Thanks alot, (looking forward to being in the community here)
Derrick Davis

I paid for a "rapeage" kit from DB Performance. What they
did was weld an extension onto the top of the clutch pedal
arm that extended above the pedal support. A hole is then
drilled in the firewall just below the cowl which lines up
with the top of the pedal extension. They used a "U" clip
with a pin to attach the cable to the pedal. I'd take
pictures, but it's already in as is all the under dash stuff
(lot's of wire and a/c vent tubes) and makes it a real pain
to get to.

Good luck.

I made my own modifications to the clutch pedal and it sounds exactly like
that. Welded an extension about 2"-3" to the top and used the U bracket with
an adjustable cable... adjustment down on the bellhousing/clutch fork where
it should be! I did this about 15 years ago before there were any kits.
Still functions fine. If I wanted to change anything, it would be to a
hydraulic clutch. Todd.

Yes and no. I haven't started this swap yet so I can't give an in depth
article but here is what I do know.
The was a car for sale in the Bargain Post and had the Taurus rack & pinion
listed. So I called the guy up and asked if he would share some info with
me on the project. He said to use an early style Taurus rack, in his case
it was an 88 model. I cross referenced it at the parts store & found it to
be the same from 88-95. To mount the rack he removed the cross member
that's under the oil pan and then welded 2in square tubing in there. I
don't know if its exactly where the cross member was or not, might need to
be back just a bit more; I don't know for sure. Then he dropped down
2-3inches lower in the center to not only clear the oil pan, but to level
the rack with the spindle knuckles & then bolted it to the cross
member. He said it was the closest rack he could find to fit the car. By
measuring, my moms boyfriend (street-rodder & helping me though this a
little), he found there to be a difference of 5inches which means the rack
will pivot 2 1/2 inches in further then lower A frame. Neither him or me
are sure about the bump steer problems that there might be. The gentlemen
I questioned on this said there was very little to minimum bump
steer. Next to go from the steering column down he cut out the tube & the
shaft at the fire wall and then used the Taurus steering joints & an
Escort's to get from the fire wall down to the rack. Inside the steering
tube he machined a piece of (can't remember, brass or something) to fit up
in there to support & let the shaft rotate. I am thinking about adding a
grease zirk there myself to lube it up every so often, that is if I do not
use a bearing of some sort..

Any more questions just ask,
Derrick Davis
