Okay I have a situation I need advice on. Before I had my 289 V8 engine
rebuilt my tranny leaked, so I informed the shop to evaluate the tranny to
see if it needs to be rebuilt. They inspected it, replaced the seals and
installed a new reflector plate (is the name correct?). Two weeks after
picking up my car (Sept.) I drove around 70 miles then when I went to park
about two quarts of tranny oil just gushed out. It came out where the
tranny bolts to the motor. I called my mechanic, who rebuilt the motor, and
he speculated that maybe the dipstick is reading wrong and we over filled it
which lead to it spitting out the oil via overfill line. Especially when
the oil got hot. I was able to drive back home with out any slippage in
gears. I put another quart that month and it would leak drops at a time
here and there. I just took it Saturday to get a 1,000 mile oil change at
the shop that rebuilt the motor and on the way home, about 40 miles - doing
around 80 miles continuously on New Jersey Parkway, when I pulled out on an
exit and stopped at a light I noticed smoke and thought they forgot to put
the oil plug back in but it was the tranny leaking out all the oil it had.
I went into a parking lot and it leaked out everything leaving me without
motion. I put 4 quarts of oil back in and drove home fine. Since then it
leaks drops at a time. What could be the problem? Another friend said
maybe the shaft needs to be replaced b/c it has a ding in it and putting new
seals will do no good?
Help!!!

A broadly similar fault developed in a newly rebuilt transmission of a guy I
know. In that case it was a partial blockage in the pump causing oil
overheating and leakage. Is your oil darkening down indicating overheating?
Cheers
Wal

That's what the guy who rebuilt my engine speculates, a clogged line
somewhere. No, it was pretty much red against the asphalt.
