VERY COOL! Thanks Dave.

Anyone else plan to go to the Scottsdale AZ screening of Bullitt (Thu
5/21 4:15 pm)?

I LOVE the movie BULLITT. Jimmie Dean and the causeless rebel - eat your
heart out. Rosebud is a damn snow sled fer chris sakes!

Then there's ... Bullitt. Those tunes, those shades, that attitude, ...
can't be beat. And the car chase climax ... what can you say? A total
classic (unbiased opinin of course).

ps: Dave K - any images of your car you'd share? How about copies of the
foriegn Ka commercial - hi-quality; Hi-8mm? Be glad to cover costs+. Any
photos of the shoot, also??

Thanks

I'm not sure what a 'Ka' is but,,,,,, In Europe (Germany specifically)
Ford is running ad's with Mr. Bullitt himself superimposed in a car,
(Like John Wayne in the Miller beer ads)
I understand they show him running the car hard!

The car is the one Ford is using in the European road rally circuit.
I believe its the WRC series. Catch the races on Speed Vision.

My folks are German, I'd have them record if for me but, last time
they recorded something, I was unable to play it here in the states :-(

Germany uses the PAL format for video (TV) while the U.S. uses the
NTSC system. You can convert from one to the other. Check your local
yellow pages under Video Production Services for a business offering
duplication and conversion services. (Sorry for the off topic post)

Well, the only images I can share are in the Jan. issue of Mustang
Monthly; I don't have the trick computer stuff to scan/xmit photos -
sorry. sad smiley MM did a pull-out poster to kick off their 20th anniversary.
Randy Lorentzen did a *superb* bit of trick photography to make the car
look airborne. I know that back issues are still available from Taylor's
Reader Services (don't have their # handy, but you can find their ad
toward the back of any MM.)

The commercial was actually for the Ford Puma, not Ka, (I already
mentioned this to Jim Smart - he published a letter from a guy in Spain
who mistakenly called it the Ka. Jim went ahead and called it the Ka
also in his reply; he has been severely beaten.) And I *finally* got a
copy of the commercial through a service in London, $$$$$$.

For those not familiar with the story, Ford UK produced a commercial for
their new sporty Puma with Steve McQueen 'driving' it a la Bullitt
(think of the commercial with the just-as-deceased Fred Astaire dancing
with a Dirt Devil vacuum - same effect). The last scene in the spot has
McQueen backing the Puma into a San Francisco garage next to "his" '68
fastback (actually my replica rented for the shoot) and the motorcycle
from The Great Escape (another replica).

Now that I've at last seen the commercial, it is really freaky. It
really looks like McQueen is there. When the shoot was taking place,
they had a copy of Bullitt on video and were matching the shots very
carefully. There was a stand-in driving the car, and he can be seen from
the back walking away from the Puma at the very end.

The commercial aired only in Europe last summer. Considering Ford was
projecting annual sales for the Puma of something like 50,000 units, it
seems they spent a *lot* of money on this campaign. Six days of shooting
in San Francisco (my fastback was used for a day and a half), the rights
to use McQueen's image from his family, the rights to Bullitt from
Warner Brothers, the music rights from Lalo Schifrin, etc.

I have photos from the shoot, but again don't have the gear to post them
here. As for copies of the commercial, that can be arranged I suppose.
It just may take awhile. E-mail me directly if interested.

And for those who missed the original post, Bullitt will be shown around
the country as part of Warner Brothers' 75th anniversay film festival.
