I have a 1966 Mustang that has been sitting in the wilds of Central
California for the best part of three months getting repaired. Yesterday,
the mechanic who is doing the work on the car calls and informs me that
he is no longer interested and that I have three days to come get my
rolling wreck off his yard or he starts charging me storage fees. So, I
need to find a trailer rig (preferably flatbed) for towing my car. I
would like to avoid having to pay hundreds of dollars in things like
hitches and connections or electrical hookups, since this is strictly a
one-shot deal. It goes without saying that the primary consideration
is the safety and continued good condition of the car, so I want to use
a process that will not damage it. However, all other factors being
equal, cheaper is definitely better. What are my best alternatives here?
If I pay someone to haul the car, it will cost $300-$500. If I rent a
truck and a trailer from UHaul, it is not significantly lower, that I
can tell. Am I doomed to expend several hundred bucks, so I should just
smile, sit back and try and enjoy the experience? Any pointers appreciated.

Boy timing is every thing got only three days and I'm going to be gone
for over a week
Where is the car going to?
And where is the car?
Get back and I check here tonight before I leave and maybe I'll have an
idea and names if we're lucky.
If I wasn't going I'ld offer to go pick the car up for you.. got a
dually crew-cab Ford and access to a couple trailers.

Dave,
Having your "rolling reck" towed by a typical tow truck won't cause ANY
harm to your vehicle. Just have them tow it by the rear axle.
If you've got the AAA PLUS card, they'll tow it 100 miles for FREE. Find a
friend with the AAA PLUS card, if you don't have one.
Additionally, I've got a friend with a tow truck. He might not want the
job, as we just towed my buddie's F150 from Woodland to San Anselmo this
morning (I just got back from that trip).
Where are you located, and where is the "rolling wreck"?

I'm a moron. I meant the reply to Walt to go to just to him; I forgot the
list defaults to "Reply to list". Sorry.
