When a windshield and gasket are replaced, before the chrome moldings =
are installed, make sure that ample amount of sealant has been used =
between glass and gasket, then between gasket and the steel frame. These =
cars were assembled with no so good precision 35 years ago, so the =
windscreen frame shape is usually far from perfect. Therefore the =
windscreen doesn't have the possibility to lay flat on frame, leaving =
some gaps for water to get in. Often too the frame shows some rust holes =
at the bottom. Quite easy to solve.=20
With windshield moldings removed, cover the visible area of the =
windscreen with paper tape, as close as possible to the rubber seal. Do =
the same on the painted surface around the windscreen. Purchase a =
cartridge of black sealant at your do-it-yourself shop. They exist in =
different type. I have chosen a 3M which is rubber based and intended =
for roofs. You need a hand gun to apply it. The cartridge comes with a =
tiny nose extension, to fit under the gasket.=20
>From the outside, lift up the windshield gasket with a screwdriver, and =
apply enough sealant under it. Do this all around the windscreen on =
glass side, and frame side also. The excess sealant will flow out as the =
rubber gasket comes back in place. Go for a beer, and let it dry for few =
hours and remove the tape. Don't forget to use the paper tape, otherwise =
it is hell to remove that stuff from the glass and paint.=20
Done properly, this will seal off everything, including rust holes, and =
is invisible.
=20
As someone says, make sure your cowl is not leaking as this is quite =
common. This can be seen from under the dashboard. Look carefully at the =
weld, where the cowl bottom plate and the firewall meets. Look also =
around the vent and heater circular connexion to cowl base.

Hi...Got this note at my site, and thought I would pass it on to you, =
in the hopes that someone might have an answer. Thanks in advance.
=20
I have a '66 hardtop coupe. I recently had the windshield and rubber =
replaced and it has leaked ever since, mostly at the bottom. I have been =
told these cars are notorious for windshield and rear window leaks. The =
glass shop has tried re-sealing and gooping the hell out of it 7 times. =
Does anyone know any tricks?
