a-arm relocation height precision

I know this thread is long and should have gotten in early. I wanted to
read the posts first. I applied the Shelby 1" mod to my 65 fb. I received
a (faxed) template from Mustangs Plus and did not seem to measure
correctly. In my opinion it was not the right size due to the faxed copy.
So I measured the correct distances with ruler and scribed the location on
the shock tower and went for it.
Ok, the pilot hole may have wandered a (teeny) bit and tried to correct it
as I drilled it out to the larger size. I believe that the end result was
pretty darn close (but not exact), close enough for government work, ha ha.
How critical is this relocation drop of the a-arms. Can I make up the
difference in alignment?

It's not too critical. You can make up most of it in alignment as long as
you've left in the shims on the upper arm (if your car had any).
Vertically you are only changing camber gain in corners, so that's not too
bad. If you go too far then you'll risk binding and breaking the upper ball
joint, but you'd have to be pretty far off I think for that to happen.
Horizontally you are only changing the castor, and as long as you're not too
close to the stops on your strut rods you can compensate there.
If you get one hole up or down off axis from the other one, then that would
be worst case. You will get variable castor on suspension travel. It would
be worst if you got the front hole down farther, because then the castor
would be less on suspension bump and would make the car less stable when the
suspension was compressed. I'd think you'd have to be pretty far off there
to make things bad though.
I'd guess you have decent room for error, but it always pays to be as close
as you possibly can be.
