That 8-inch is tougher than people think. It's also very popular
with street rod guys, I see them under '32 Fords and the ever-popular
T-buckets, too. The "smooth" appearance of the rear face is what
they like so much. Fewer gears available, though...
9-inch axles used in older full-sized Fords (the '57 is often
mentioned) are a good source. Know your axle's critical width and
spacing dimensions, then get a tape measure and head for the
junkyards.

Try www.wabba.net, under the Mustang section. You'll see it in the
"how-to" listing.

Check with Mustangs Plus (www.mustangsplus.com), they sell Versailles
brake parts and may even have on-line info, I'm not certain. You may
have to e-mail them with your question. There have been a number of
magazine articles about this swap, consider looking for Mustang
Monthly's "How To" publications, it's in one of 'em. The Versailles
axle (found under some V-8 Granadas and Monarchs, too - quite rare,
though) is a really good fit in the early Mustangs. The main problem
seems to be cost, most sellers know what they have.
