One of the guys in my Mustang club just called and said he has someone that
wants to get rid of a 351W 2bbl that came out of a 76 Ford Van. He says the
engine has approximately 85,000 miles on it. It would need a rebuild of
course, but the price I think is right $200.

Are there any problems putting this in a 67 Coupe? I have heard there are
issues with the motor mounts. I'm not quite sure I know what this means. I
can imagine that the mounts have to be changed to fit in the Mustang, but
what does that entail? Are there any other concerns I should be aware of
before I go beg the "other half" to let me spend the money?

About the car - it is a 67 Coupe that originally came with a 6cyl, however
the owner before me put in a 65 289. I don't think much else was changed
from the car to accommodate the v8. I, on the other hand, am completely
taking the car apart to fix and modify the problems. Front disks from an 80
Granada will be installed, power steering needs rebuilt or replace (it leaks
all over the place and is very sloppy), c4 tranny is shot, rear-end is a
4.11 posi. I would like to build up the 351w for some good power (400 hp)
to drive now and then and run at the track. I plan on keeping the 289 and
fixing it up as a spare and to run now and then just on the street.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

Brian

I've got a 76 LTD 351W in a '67 Coupe. The car is not on the road yet but
here are a few things I ran into.

I had to replace the radiator, the inlet and outlet hoses are opposite
that of a 289. I went with a custom built 4 core radiator.

I had problems with brackets but I didn't have a complete engine to start
with.

It might be suggested that you put in springs for a V8 since you might be
running on 6cyl springs at the moment... There may be other V8 upgrades
as well on the front end.

There have been many times that I had just rebuilt the 289 that had come
with the car. I had all the parts, I just needed to fix them. Instead I
decided to "improve" things. And in doing so I needed to improvise a lot
of things.

The engine is all together, however now the car is apart due to a
power disk brake upgrade. (The motor ran too strong for those 4 wheel
drum brakes.)

That's where this project sits. Needing the brake system put back
together. I've already got the spindles from a '76 Granada in the car.
I've got a '68 power booster and master and pedal. All I need to do is
hook up the steel lines.
