Ok, so I want to lose the ancient tape player in my '72, 'cos it eats tapes,
and, well, loosely put, it sucks.
I do have the original AM radio around somewhere however, but I don't consider
that an 'upgrade' from what I have now.
Does anyone know of a replacement bezel that will let you drop in a standard
DIN-sized radio? Or do I pick up a used one on ebay for $10 and start cutting?

Heck, if you have the original radio and it works and has no cut wires, I
might be interested in taking it off your hands...as for the DIN sized
radio, bezels are sold in most Mustang parts catalogs I've seen for those.

Let me do some digging for that, it's in a box somewhere in my father's
garage. I'm certainly not worried about originality anymore, that went out the
window when the single exhaust went.

15 minutes of ebay and google didn't find me one - got a part # or a link or a
recommended supplier with phone #?

NPD's 2006 catalog, page 16, shows a bezel "for CD radios" that I suspect
is DIN-sized. It lists at $99.95.

Or just do what I did and take a dremel to the original. It took about
an hour. $100/hour, not bad.

I did this to my 67 bezel several years ago (used a drill and a grinding
wheel). I had a Clarion pullout AM/FM cassette (back before CD players)
until I took the stang to Aamco to get the tranny replaced. They left the
car outside that night and, yep you guessed it, both stereo and bezel were
stolen. I was actually more upset about the bezel than the stereo. Aamco
paid me $300 for my trouble. Shortly after that incident I put the stang in
storage and stopped using it as a daily driver. Still haven't replaced the
stereo to this day. Looking back I am just glad the thieves didn't damage
anything - all they did was cut the wires and unscrew the bezel. Probably
took them all of 20 seconds.
