Hi all,

I just received my vacuum reservoir from Summit. I was told by some of
you that all I need to do was put the tank inline between the manifold
and the booster.

My current set up includes a tree mounted to the firewall. A hose from
the manifold goes to this tree, then from the tree I have a hose that
goes to the power brake booster, and another hose that goes to the
transmission. My mechanic says that I need to run a separate hose to
the transmission. I don't understand why. If anything, there will be
consistent vacuum to the tree to supply both the brakes and the
transmission. Any thoughts?

Also, after looking for a spot to install the tank, I found only one
place to put it. But to put it there, the tank needs to be on it's
side. I'm going to guess that this will be ok.

Thanx again.

-Chuck

He's right, the transmission will need to be hooked straight to the engine.
Reason is - The tranny doesn't want a constant vacuum source like most
accessories, it uses the vacuum of the engine to know when to shift. So
you'll want to run the tranny line straight to the engine, and if you have a
problem with late shifting due to low vacuum, you'll need a different vacuum
modulator for the tranny with a lower pressure (vacuum modulator is a little
piece that screws into or is held in by a little clip into the rear of the
tranny). Many are adjustible via a small screw too.

No problems with it being on its side. I mounted mine behind the passenger
side inner fender down below the hood hinge. Cut a small rectangular hole
just big enough for the two hoses to run thru, that thing is pretty large
and that keeps it out of sight...

Bryan,

Thanks a bunch. This was needed information. The post that's connected
to the manifold has two outlets. I'll just connect one to the tank, and
one directly to the trans. It make sense on how the vacuum effects the
shifting.

I'm adding this tank because my high lift cam is robbing my brakes of
vacuum during idling periods.

Thanx,

-Chuck
