Hi all,
My little beast developed another problem yesterday. I noticed while
driving that I saw smoke. Brought it home and checked it later that
evening. It was pretty easy to see that I have a leak from the power
steering hose near what I believed is call the power valve (please
correct me if I'm wrong). It's one of the hoses that go from this valve
to the power steering pump. The weird part is, it looks like it was
cut, not split. There are two slices in the hose. But that's neither
here or there.
My question is; is there any special procedures to replacing these
hoses, or do I just take them off and put the new ones back on. Are
they special order parts, or can I co to Trak Auto and pick up a pair?
Any hints or tips would be most appreciated.
Thanx,
-Chuck

If it's the return hose, it's plain hose. If it's the pressure hose,
then it needs to be the right one, they can probably order it if they
don't stock it. I got one for my 71 Lincoln, same day a few years ago.

As always, I recommend you hie yourself to a catalog
shop and order a Shop Manual set. Jobs like this are
always a bit more problematic when you're in the dark
about details *and* basic pinciples. :-)
I'll say this much - (1) drain what's left of the P/S
fluid, (2) only use flare-end wrenches on the fittings,
and (3) be sure to get the hoses aligned properly or
all sorts of odd things can happen.

Personally, I'm no great fan of aftermarket P/S hoses,
mainly because they vary in quality from crap to fine.
Further, I'm willing to bet the originals are N/A from
your local dealership.
Based on production date, there were different pressure
hoses, but the others are more straightforward. If you
want to check on NOS ones, take a look at our rapidly
growing online inventory. Its available through our big
"Genuine Ford Stuff" department, or by using this link:
