I was almost done swapping the FMX tranny on my 70 Mach 1 (351c-2v) and my
drive shaft is too short. Turns out that the tranny I took out is longer
than the new one. Can someone with a similar setup take a measurement to
help me out? The difference is the length of the tail-housing. On the old
one it is a little over 16" long. The new one is only 13" long. Which is
correct? Please help!!!
TIA

I also have a 70 Mach 351C, but 4V, with an FMX. I just measured mine, and
it is 13". As far as I know it's the original. You know the part that
attaches to the front of the drive shaft that goes into the tail housing?
Maybe that comes in different lengths and you could get a different length to
fit? That piece on mine is about 4 1/2" long from where it attaches to the
drive shaft to where it goes into the tail housing.

Thanks so much for checking! Looks like the new (shorter) one is the
correct one, and the one that was in there was not correct. That means I
need to find the right drive shaft. If it's not too much trouble, could I
ask you (or anyone else) to measure how long the drive shaft is - from
u-joint to u-joint (or whatever is easiest)?
TIA

Steve, It will be in tomorrow's mail. I am in the middle of moving and have
been tied up with getting everything in order and I simply forgot about it.
. I apologize for the delay.
