I'm finally getting around to replacing the rear leaf springs on my '70 CJ 4-spd Mach 1 and so got out the big Ford Parts Book and looked up the p/n and specs for this car. What it showed was a p/n C9ZZ 55560-*C*, 730 lb., 4-leaf spring with a color code of "2 YL 2 BN". My build sheet agrees that's what this car was built with. So, I call Eaton Detroit Spring and am told that they only carry one spring for this car, it's p/n C9ZZ 55560-*D*, and it's a 700 lb spring. My Ford Parts Book lists this as a 690 lb, 2 gold/1 purple color code spring.
Is there anyone else out there with a '70 CJ/SCJ car originally with 2 yellow/2 brown color-coded springs? What have you done for replacement? Any general suggestions for alternatives to Eaton Detroit Spring? Can't imagine there's any NOS leaf springs out there any more. I tossed the original springs out years ago when I first replaced them (and used somewhat generic replacements at the time which always seemed to sit kind of low).
Help!

Jon,
Several years ago I replaced my springs. Could not find originals from Ford, so I called Jeff Sneathen at Semo Mustang. I bought NOS rear springs from a '67/'68 Shelby GT-500. They were not exact - but I figured they were close enough. I disassembled my original set, disassembled the "new" set, and used the small original bottom leaf with the numbers cast into it along with the top three new leaves. There was about 3/4" increase in height (measured out of the car) between the new set and the old. You could always try Perogie - he may have a set laying around. Good luck!
