Hi all-
I just saw where you could buy a remanufactured long block 70 351c for
around $1200 w/7yr-70k mile warranty. Sounds nice and like a good deal.
First question- what is included in a short block- essentially the same
but without the heads? Does it include the cam?
Second question- What should I expect to pay for an essentially stock
short block? And where could I find one?
Third question- if I had a decent block to start with what is a
reasonable cost to have a short block built out of it?
TIA

Possibly. Rebuilder engines can be put together with some real crappy
parts. If it's bored larger than .030 over, you could very well have
overheating problems. Most I've seen are junk, without regard to the
stated warranty. How many times are you prepared to pull the engine should
you have problems? Ask for references.

That depends on the rebuilder. Most do, some don't. You'll have to ask.
Most are block, crank, rods, pistons and cam. You have to supply oil pump,
pan, lifters, pushrods, heads, intake, etc.

351C's are not common. You'd find them at rebuilders, maybe PAW and in
wrecking yards. I can get one from our local yard for $150 for the
complete engine. This would be a core engine that needs going through.

Machining and labor costs vary by area, but somewhere in the $700~1200
range most likely.
