Last year the vocational school I work for had an Auto Body program. The body
shop used a tool called "Uni-Spotter" or an other brand called "MagnaSpotter"
to weld these little studs in place. This type of tool is used to resistance
weld nail like studs to a dented area where it is pulled with a slide hammer
or mo-clamp. Using the same tool with a different tip and studs you can
replicate the factory studs. The advantage That I see in this type a repair
is that it does not require a hole being drilled in to the sheet metal where
rust can happen. Maybe someone in your neighborhood can help you. This is a
very common tool in my area for body shops.
