This weekend my wheel bearings on my drivers side locked up and sheared the spindle in half. Went to the old salvage yard and got a new one, installed it, started to put my new wheel bearings on and they do not fit. They were just a little to small. Cross referenced the parts and found out that it was a spindle from a 71. The only difference is the wheel bearings are a little thinner and bigger around. Got the 71 bearings and put it together and it works great. Now for my question, will it hurt anything driving the car with a 68 spindle on one side and a 71 on the other? the drums are the same. Is the 70 and newer spindles better, should I get another 71, or should I look for a 68?

Thanks,
James

You'll be fine. The 70-up spindle is stronger, you can wait til
you break the other one and then replace it(!), or do it now....eye rolling smiley
The bearings you used are the A12 and A13 for the bigger spindle.
It's a good thing to upgrade.

Get the other 71 spindle and replace your older 68 spindle when
the weather gets better. The 71 is stronger and is a nice
upgrade.
