I just bought a chrome-look plastic snap in ring for that "safety"
cushion-type thing on my steering wheel, but it doesn't just snap in (looks
about 1/2" too small in diameter). I was wondering if anyone has ever put
one of these on & how easy it was. I was thinking some kind of lubricant
would help, but the paint on the foam part is pretty wore out & may be
discolored when it absorbs the lube. I know this is a fairly simple thing
(so far I've only looked at it in the dark...havent put in much effort
yet), just wanted to see if there was an easy way before I break it trying
to force it on.
Thanks!!

Alison,
Depending on where you live, and how hard it's going to be to warm up
the center pad, it's not very hard to put on....
Unscrew the center cushion pad, and take it in the house, let it warm
up, so that it's squeezbly soft, and push on your new chrome ring...it's
going to take a lot to make it snap...
Hope this helps,
Karl

Alison,
I've replaced the same piece before. Karl's advice about bringing the
pad up to room temperature to make it pliable helps a great deal.
Also, a coating of water based lubricant will allow it to slide on
easier without scratching the paint or plastic.
