I have a question regarding a 67 automatic console I bought for my
convertible at a local resto shop. Are the consoles for the coupes and
convertibles different at the base? The convertible has two ridges in the
tranny tunnel that this console does not line up with. It therefore does
not want to fit on the tranny tunnel. Can I trim it to fit? It is a
perfect original and I really want to make this work.
Thanks,
Jerry

Yep, the coupe console is different than the convertible. I've got the same
problem with mine. I haven't got the nerve to trim it.......yet. I'm
figuring to trim it with a hot knife, but I'd sure hate to foul it up!

Thanks to the guys who provided tips. I ended up using J-B Weld after
putting both console and weld into heated house instead of freezing garage.
Application of weld, followed by taping pieces together and leaving to
cure for 6 hours in house produced amazing results. A console worth
nothing is now complete and awaiting a light sanding and black paint. This
J-B Weld stuff is magic !
This console is the only "4 speed" 67-8 console I've seen and I'm told
they are rare. Is that so ?

I also have a '67 2+2 with the console, a while back I met another guy
with an almost identical car except for the console, he didn't have one.
I've had a lot of people comment on the little roll-up metal door in front
of the stick so I am just wondering the same thing that Mark was... are
these consoles rare? I wasn't aware that they were an option (hey the
car was made almost 10 years before I was born) I'll have to go dig up the
window sticker I got with the car and see what exactly the options were,
but if anyone has any info it would be appreciated.
Thanx,

Greetings All:
Lets see if I can help clarify the issue of Center consoles/rarity.....As
best as I see it, roughly 40-60% of all mustangs ordered, came with bucket
seats. Out of those, say another 40-50% ordered the center console....That
would still put the center console at over 20,000 ordered(not dealer
installed)....
Rarity, maybe not, but try to find one in excellent shape these days(I
have three of them(not forsale)). Not quite next to impossible, but still
getting harder to find. Most of the rollup doors are thrown away once they get
jammed two or three times, causing the owners to bleed(yes, they do have sharp
edges on them)........
Most of what you'll find out there, can be restored. The doors are now
available from most Mustang Parts Distributors, while the brushed aluminum of
the 67 style center console is also available from the same sources. 4spd
consoles are harder to find thean the automatics, but they are still out there.
At Fords At Carlisle, I saw over 50 of these consoles, all in varying colors
and conditions, so they are there, just look......
The 68 version, with it's padded radio cover, seems to be the rarer of the
two years. Try to find one that has not been hacked up to install a later model
radio....Aside from that, not much else to say on the subject. Perhaps I
rambled a bit on this one, but I can only blame the 7 cups of coffee I had
today(rough day at work).....Hope this is helpful.
Yours In Fords,
Bill S.
