Years (more than 10) ago I replaced the master cylinder on my 66. I never
liked the way the brakes worked after that. It felt a little like there was
air in the system, but I was fairly sure I got it all out. The replacement
cylinder had an extra fitting on it, so I assumed the difference was in the
m/c. Recently, I replaced the m/c on another car. It came with some
fittings to do a bench bleed. I've never bench bled one before, but the
parts were all there so I did it. I was surprised that air just kept on
coming out of that m/c. Then I thought, maybe that's the problem with my
Mustang. So I took off my m/c and bench bled it. Air also seemed to
continue to come out of it, but I'm not sure that it wasn't because I pulled
the piston back too fast. Once I started working it slowly, air stopped
coming out. After I put it back in, I noticed that the spring in the m/c
would not return the pedal back to the top by itself. Unless I'm wrong, it
needs to do this, right? I'm holding off on reconnecting everything and
bleeding the system until I decide to keep this m/c or replace it. Should I
just get a new one or use the old one?

Someone posted that a 1983 Ford Fairmont booster and master cylinder was a easy
bolt in. Then someone else said that you had to modify a lot of other stuff like
the firewall the stock brake pedal. Has any one done this conversion? What has
to be altered on the car . Like extra holes in firewall or big hammer to
firewall . What has to be changed on the pedal. Thanks

from what i remember Darren telling me (he has done the swap to power brakes
using fairmont booster) , the front of the pedal support has to have a plate
welded onto it with hole to match the bolt pattern of the booster.
on the pedal , the peg that the pushrod goes on has to be lowered--but i
dont remember how far.
below is a link he sent me , it is a site describing the swap.

Darren , if anything i have said here is incorrect , please correct me.
