Hey all, question aobut the brakes on my '66 coupe. It currently has
drum all around. I want to change this to either drum in the back and
disc on front; or why not, disc all around. I have looked at the discs
kit that are brand new, and if anyone else has; you will observe they
are very pricey. So hers my question, is there any brakes that came on
any other cars that are equvilant to the brakes on this car, so that I
can get them used, as well as make them easier to find. Do you know if
there are any other brake fits? Please respond if anyone knows. Thanks
all.

Daniel

Daniel, I put front discs on my 68 convertible. I went to a local wrecking
yard during an all you can carry for $25 deal. I walked out with two
complete spindles and brake assemblies off a Ford Granada. The only things I
had to change was I had to put Granada outer tie rods on the Mustang. On
65-66, you have to get a special right side outer tie rod that Mustangs Plus
sells for about $85. It is alot, but still cheaper than kits.Mustangs Plus
has kits to do it and they sell the parts separately. You will need a
proportioning valve in line to the rear brakes, Summit has them for about
$35. One problem is the hub is bigger on the later rotors and early model
wheels will not fit.
For the rear, I have lincoln Versailles complete rear end. It narrower than
67-70, so I can run wider tires and wheels. I think it is about the width as
65-66. Hope this helps.
